Week 1, Term 1, 2019.

Lance Muller —

The Year 7/8 Hub is already in full swing. The next few weeks promise to be very busy as we get back into learning for 2019.

Community Evening 2019 - This was held on Thursday evening. Thanks to those came along.

You can view our Hub Presentation here.

Parent Evenings - Please see the latest newsletter for information about these. We look forward to meeting all of you and setting some goals for your child for the year.

CRT Day Monday 11 February - All 3 year 7/8 teachers will be on classroom release on Monday. We will be out of the classroom (but at school) all day. Students will continue with the normal programme of learning on this day. Mrs Baker, Mrs Stinson and Mrs Forbes will be in the 7/8 Hub for the day.

Technology at Lincoln - Technology starts next week on Tuesday 12 February. Please ensure that your child is at school no later than 8:30am in order to be on time to catch the bus to Lincoln. Students need to return their signed Tech Bus Forms before next Tuesday if they are to attend Technology.

Year 7 Camp at Wainui - We are in the final stages of organisation for camp. Full payment for the camp is due by Friday 15 February. Please direct all queries re payment to the school office. Please ensure that you have completed and returned  your child's health form. Your child must have all of the items on the gear list that are listed as essential. A final camp notice will be coming part way through next week. You can view that camp gear list here.

Mandarin - This year all Year 7/8 students will be having weekly Mandarin lessons on a Wednesday afternoon. Students will be doing Mandarin sessions in their whanau classes. Lessons will involve Zoom sessions with a Mandarin Teacher in China. Be sure to ask your child what they have been learning. Practice makes perfect!

Kauri Swimming Sports - A notice should have come home this week about this upcoming event. Swimming sports will be held next Friday at Halswell Pool. This will be the first chance for our House Captains, Sports Coordinators  and other Student Leaders to get involved in a large school event. Fingers crossed for sunshine.

Te Hapua Visits - The Year 7/8 Hub will be visiting Te Hapua on Fridays, in terms 1, 2 and 3.  7/8LM will be visiting in Term 1. A notice will come home on Friday about this. You can also view the notice at this link.  We will need some parent helpers to walk with us to and from Te Hapua. If you are able to help, please indicate as such on the return form.

BYOD - If your child is planning on bringing their own device they will need to pass the BYOD test and also return the signed BYOD agreement.  The sooner all of this is completed the better, as we will be well and truly under way with learning very soon. We encourage anyone considering having BYOD to do the test. All BYOD info can be found on the school website.

Other Learning - As well as setting up and starting Literacy and Maths Programmes, we will also be starting our Arts rotation. This will see students rotating through visual art, drama and music rotations. We will also be starting our weekly Te Reo Sessions with Matua Rihari. These will be held each Friday afternoon.

As always we welcome contact regarding your child and their learning and well being at school. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions. Kind regards as always.

Lance, Sarah and Bryan.
