Week 4 in Review in Kōmingo

Trish Patten —

We have begun our preparation for camp in earnest this week as we commence our learning around the Living Springs Camp, its activities and how its environment interacts with the Earth's 4 spheres.

The Hurutini Junior Council presentations:

We are seeking to add 2 more students to our group who represent Oaklands Te Kura O Ōwaka at the Hurutini Junior Council. The Hurutini Junior Council enables the voice of our young citizens to be represented to the Christchurch City Council. Their purpose is to seek community voice from our students to effect changes in our community. Today 9 students shared their presentations as to why they should be considered for the role. The teachers will announce the results next week.

Congratulations go to all who stood up to do this, you have done a wonderful job representing yourselves in this pursuit - Amelia W, Emma, Esther, Alexis, Amelia G, Toby, George, Greer and Max.

Living Springs Camp (31 August - 2 September): Thanks to all of you who are keeping up with the recent form filling requirements, it is much appreciated. We are getting to the final countdown with student preparation in our learning programmes and competing all the EOTC documentation required to take such a big group on camp - just under 150 people in total.

If you have not done so please complete the COVID-19 Response form.

Here is the link to the key information document. Bunkroom organisation will appear on this in the next few days as will duty groups. Your child will also have this information in their camp booklet which they will be bringing home next week for you to see and for you to sign the Camp Contract with your child.

Talent Show: Students have been invited to prepare an item showing their talent to present at School Camp. This is always one of the  highlights of School Camp. This is an optional activity and we are providing students with time to rehearse during the school day.

Parent helps for Museum Visits: Thanks to those parents who have responded to the message that was sent home in the past week. if you are able to assist on the following dates please email komingo@oaklands.school.nz

In the Gardening groups some students were pruning the fruit tress with the assistance of an expert from the Orchards in Schools programme, while the rest of the group were talkiing about and preparing for the planting of seeds for the Spring.
