From the Head Students 2020
Each year the Head Students do a speech where they reflect on their time at Oaklands School. Read Amber and Matthew's thoughts below.
Hi I’m Matthew and I am the head boy for 2020.
Hi I'm Amber and I am the head girl for 2020.
We have both been at Oaklands since we were 5 years old.
We would like to share some of our favourite memories of our time at Oaklands with you.
Matthew Year 0: In year 0 my teacher was Miss Coom. There isn’t much I remember, though I made friends that I still know today.
Amber Year 1: In year 1 my teacher was Miss Tait. One of the many things I remember from being in her class was when a troll came and destroyed our classroom.
Matthew Year 2: Miss Bergman was my year 2 teacher. I was in a year 2/3 class. We started learning the recorder - Mum loved that!
Amber Year 3: The best part of year 3 with Miss O'loughlin was when we planted potatoes and watched them grow. We also learned about caterpillars and we even had some real ones in our class.
Matthew Year 4: My year 4 teacher was Mrs Baker. Year 4 was a year of firsts. First year we did school sports, Mini-ball, collaborative learning and first year we brought BYOD to school.
Amber Year 5: Year 5 was an interesting year. My teacher was Mrs Marsh; but she got sick. We had a new reliever every 2nd week or so. The best part of year 5 was camp. My favourite part of camp was going on the go karts and playing gaga dodgeball.
Matthew Year 6: Mrs Patten was my year 6 teacher. We started learning Chinese for the first time. For literacy we start novel study. Which is something we do a lot in year 7/8.
Amber Year 7: Year 7 was so much fun and there are so many memories that I have with my 3 teachers Mr Brown, Mr Muller and Mrs Baker. My favourite memory is definitely formal dance lessons with Mr Brown and the actual night of formal. It was so fun getting to dance and hangout with friends.
Matthew Year 7: Year 7 was a busy year. Some of the most memorable moments from year 7 are runners club and doing the pegasus 9km run at the end of the year. All the sports that we did ranging from Koru Games to athletics.
Amber Year 8: Year 8 has been an interesting year but still has been an amazing last year at Oaklands. I have lots of memories with my fellow year 8's and my teachers. I don't think anybody is going to forget Zoom Learning or even better Zoom assemblies! The best part of the year is not just one thing it is all of the different opportunities I have had this year.
Matthew Year 8: A word to sum up year 8 would be uncertainty. There were times where you weren’t really sure if events were going to happen. Some of this made this year even better. Camp was really good especially since no one had been before and we got to choose our own activities.
Finally we would also like to thank our four teachers Mr Brown, Mrs Baker, Mr Muller and Mr Sy for everything they have done these past two years. Also, all the other teacher that have helped us during our time at Oaklands
We hope that next year's Head Students will enjoy their role as much as we have and we wish them all the best.
Thank you
