Leadership Training Day

Lance Muller —

This week all of the Year 7 & 8 students took part in a leadership training day.

Leadership is a big focus for us in the Year 7 & 8 hub with all of the students having one  key leadership role. This role being either student leader ( head student, house captain, ambassadors or coordinators), Physical Activity Leader ( PALs), Librarian or Peer Mediator.

The Peer Mediators had a busy half day of training with Tracy Scott from the Peace Foundation, who has been helping to train our Peer Mediators for a number of years now. The Mediators received a wealth of knowledge and skills that they are keen to put into practice in the the school.

The PALs focussed on putting together a list of good lunchtime games and activities and then spent some time teaching these to each other. It is always eye opening for our PALs to be on the 'other side' of a game where they need to focus more on getting others involved and less on their own personal involvement and success in an activity.

The Student Leaders had a busy morning being challenged on a number of levels by Mr Ladbrook. They have begun to plan some initiatives that they will implement in the school during the year. Watch this space. Their ideas are fantastic will certainly be enjoyed by everyone.

The Librarians spent the morning assisting Mrs Ward in the Library. They are helping to get the library up and running for the year. No mean feat what with the library having to move rooms once again in 2017. This group of leaders has also been planning some exciting reading initiatives  and will be putting these in place during the year.
