Cybersafety

Margaret Trotter —

As your child is doing their distance learning this is a good time to check that they are keeping themselves safe and you are monitoring their online use. Have you set up the filtering to protect your child.

The Ministry of Education has been providing free filtering for your home access to the internet.  This is an important aspect of protecting your child being online.

Free internet safety filter for parents

While children are learning from home, they are away from the online safety and security services provided by Network for Learning (N4L) at school. So together with N4L and Netsafe, they have launched www.switchonsafety.co.nz - a free way to block the worst of the web for students and teachers.

Netsafe is a New Zealand organisation that provides  comprehensive support for parents, students and schools. There link is     https://www.netsafe.org.nz/advice/parenting/

This is also a good time to check if your Kauri child has completed their BYOD licence set up by the school at the beginning of the year.  The school will be revisiting this for our Kakano students as well.  All Kauri students were signed up for DQ World which is a Digital Citizenship e-Learning Programme for 8-12-Year-Old Children.  Teachers will revisit this programme in the next few weeks.  For our Kakano students our teachers will revisit the Hectors World programme to remind students about their safety.
