Kauri Sport Programme, term 1

Grant Forman —

Term 1 is going to be a busy one with sport in the Kauri team. Here are a list of the events and dates. Please note that students need to be in year 5-8 to participate in the inter-school events. This is a Primary Sport Canterbury requirement.

Kauri Cross Country - Friday 24th February @ Halswell Quarry - to be held in conjunction with the whole school Community Day to be held at the Halswell Quarry. This event is the trial for the team to attend the South West Zone event in term 2. More details to come. We aim to begin the first race (year 4) by 10:30am with the 4th and final race (year 7/8) beginning around 11:40am with races completed by 12:00pm.

Students will compete in their YEAR level (year 4, 5, 6, 7,8) rather than age as year levels are used for the zone, Canterbury and inter-regional events.

Year 4 students will run approx. 1.3 -1.5km, year 5/6 approx. 1.8-2.0km and year 7/8 approx. 2.6-2.8km.

We will be using a course similar to that used for the South West Zones and Canterbury events held at Halswell Quarry.

Swim team trials - Thursday 2nd March @ Jellie Park.

This event is for students who are capable of swimming 50 metres with ease and wish to trial for the Oaklands School swim team to attend the South West Zones swim meet at Wharenui Pool on Tuesday 14th March.

Students who are successful at the SW zones event will be eligible to compete in the Canterbury swim champs at Selwyn Aquatic Centre, Rolleston on Thursday 6th April.

Kauri duathlon (run/bike/run) - Wednesday 8th March @ Westlake Park

Students will run, bike and run around Westlake Park as an individual or as part of a team.

Students will compete in AGE groups according to their age at 1st January, 2017. This is the formula used for the  Primary Schools Interschool Duathlon event at Ruapuna Raceway on Monday 27th March.

Students are able to enter as part of a year level team (i.e., students in different year 5 classes can make a team), or as an individual.

We strongly encourage athletes who wish to be selected for the Oaklands School duathlon team to compete at the Canterbury Primary Schools Duathlon at Ruapuna Raceway on Monday 27th March to enter in the individual race.

Rugby League Tournament-  Yr 5/6 Tuesday 28th March

                                                              Yr 7/8 Tuesday 11th April

These two events are subject to having sufficient numbers to form teams. More information to follow for these two events.
