Board  of Trustees Update

Margaret Trotter —

Meeting 18th November 2015

The Board of Trustees met on Wednesday 18th November and as mentioned in last month's update we would very much appreciate your feedback please on the two school policies that are up for review this term. This is your opportunity to have a say about 'Religious Education' and 'Improving Educational Outcomes for Maori Students' at Oaklands school. Please follow the link: www.oaklands.school.nz/Site/School_Information/School_Policies.ashx

Following discussion with the Ministry of Education and other primary schools in the local area the Board received information regarding the possible re-zoning of Oaklands school. We are working together with the Ministry of Education on a proposal. We will continue to keep you informed.

The Board approved the draft budget for 2016 and this will be ratified early in Term 1, 2016.

The teachers and leadership team have worked hard over much of 2015 developing a 'Graduate Profile' for Oaklands school. This outlines the learner qualities that the school aspires to see in all our students as they graduate from Oaklands onto further education. The teaching staff are looking forward to sharing this with our families before the end of term.

The senior leadership team reported back to the Board regarding their recent visits to Stonefields and Elim schools in Auckland. These visits were very beneficial as we continue to gather information and learn from others on our journey towards starting the building redevelopment of Oaklands in 2018.

The Board has approved leave in 2016 for Miss Harris and Miss De Schot. We wish them all the best and look forward to their return to Oaklands in 2017.

We are pleased to see the swimming pool up and running now the 'warmer' days are here! Ivan, our school caretaker, is aiming to keep the water temperature at a toasty 28 degrees centigrade. The Board has approved the purchase of two new skimmers for the pool.

The Board are supportive of and thankful to all those on the Gala committee. They are working hard to put together a fun, family evening which will have the added benefit of fundraising for our school.

Finally, we would love you to start thinking about whether you would like to put your name forward for election onto the Board in May 2016. If you would like to know more, please ask one of the office staff to put you in touch with one of the current Board members. You are also very welcome to come to our meetings; last one for this year is Wednesday 9th December in the staffroom.
