Cricket success - Amelia Tainui

Grant Forman —

Today we celebrate the talented Ameila. Having taken up the sport of cricket only last year, Amelia has taken the local cricket scene by storm - as evidenced by her being the recipient of a number of awards at her recent cricket awards ceremony.

On Wednesday the 16th of March Amelia attended her cricket prize giving for the Haslwell Cricket Club. She received a trophy for 'best batter' in her team and, very impressively, was awarded the title of Senior female club player of the year.

Amelia scored a total of 221 runs throughout the session. An outstanding effort. But not only does Amelia impress with the bat, anyone who has faced her medium paced bowling will know that she is very difficult to hit.

The strength of a true all-rounder is the often forgotten area of fielding. Possessing a strong arm and excellent co-ordination,  Amelia is an asset in the field.

This won't be the last time we hear of the name Amelia when we talk about cricket, a fact that Canterbury junior cricket have recognised.

Well done, Amelia.
