Koru Art in the Year 2 Hub

Jenny-Marie Evans —

What is a koru? A koru in Maori means loop. It is a spiral shape such as the silver fern frond. It symbolises  new life, growth, strength and peace. It is an integral symbol in Māori art and is often found in carvings.

This week we used  our art skills to create a koru design. We also had a go at weaving sticks into the design. The children really enjoyed exploring the spiral shape and using a range of colours in their design. It was inspiring seeing children help others when they found the weaving a challenge.
