Reminder - Sun Hats required for Terms 1 & 4
In Terms 1 and 4, all students must wear a hat when they are outdoors. Every child is required to have a school sun hat to protect them from the sun.
Every child is required to have a sun hat to protect them from the sun. Children should wear hats that shade the face, neck and ears. Hats must be named, and can be kept at school.
Every morning the teachers will check that students have a hat. They will email you to remind you if they do not have one. All students who do not have a hat will be sent to the hall to be in the shade. We are a sun smart school and our sun protection policy applies during terms 1 and 4. Oaklands Te Kura o Ōwaka aims to:
protect our students and staff from excessive exposure to the sun's UVR while they are at school, or involved with off-site school activities
educate the whole school community about the harmful effects of excessive exposure to the sun's UVR, and how to keep themselves safe.
Our Sun Protection policy also recommends that students wear sunscreen on sunny days (teachers have a generic suncreen available in the classroom), and that t-shirts or rash vests be worn in the school pool.
Hat sharing can be a minor cause of spreading head lice. If you discover head lice on your child's school hat simply place the hat in a plastic bag and put in the freezer for 12 hours.
Sunglasses may also be worn, if parents so wish.
School hats can be purchased from The Warehouse Hornby or from NZ Uniforms.
