Taiheke - Term 2 - Week 3

Matthew Reed —

Glentui Camp

Archery Tag Matthew Reed

Last week the Year 7 students and the Heads went to Glentui for the Year 7 Camp. The students had an awesome time. Check out their comments below. The weather played ball for most of the time. Especially on the second day when the sun came out and the temperature rose above 20 degrees celsius.

The students had loads of activities and opportunities to explore the outdoors as well and strengthen their bonds with each other.

What was your highlight from the Year 7 Glentui Camp?

- I have so many highlights from Glentui Camp but my top one would have to be roasting marshmallows by the fire and spotlight because it was so fun going down with Mr Brown to light the fire and learning how the types of wood changes the fire, and when we played spotlight and everyone thought I was Olive and Ngaire.

- My highlight from Glentui Camp was spotlight because we played a different version I have never played and it was really fun .

- My highlight from the Glentui Camp was doing the talent show and doing my EPIC rap with Emma because we won and it was very surprising because we were just doing it for fun and getting that very very nice 50c trophy as a prize.

What surprised you at the Glentui Camp?

- Something that surprised me at the Glentui camp was how much I connected with other people and my teachers I definitely loved being around Eden and Elizabeth because of how supporting they were and they made me feel safe and not that worried.

- Something that surprised me at Glentui camp was the River walk because we kept finding these stone/rocks that you can break and we were trying to find fossils. We also found one fossil and that was exciting ( Even though Mr Reed was the one to find it).

- Something that surprised me at Glentui Camp was collecting fossils along our trip at the River Walk. Mr Reed was explaining what a fossil looked like and how to successfully find one. We were fortunate enough to discover an old fossil that had been embarked in a rock. It was my first time discovering a fossil, therefore, it surprised me.

What challenged you the most at Glentui Camp?

Something that challenged me was the long endless walk to Mt Richardson ( I didn't even get halfway yet and my legs felt like very wobbly jelly! What also Challenged me was the scavenger hunt the heads and deputies made for us. Its was very fun though I was scared I would let my team down by stopping at the stairs because we wanted to be the first team to get back ( and we did!)

- Something that challenged me at Glentui camp was definitely 100% the STAIRS because we had to continuously go up and down them. It was easy going down but not going up.

- Something that challenged me the most at Glentui Camp was all the walking especially walking up the stairs (there were around 180-200 stairs) because we had to keep walking up and down them and the only time I got up them with no break was at night because I didn't want to be left behind in the dark.

All the teachers and students would like to thank the wonderful parent helpers! Without you this awesome camp would not have been possible. Again a giant thank you from Taiheke.
