Cultural Club 2023

Rebecca Pilbrough —

Cultural club is something that us, the cultural leaders introduced this year, and has definitely been a huge success.

Kharmony - The Cultural Club was established in Term 1 of this year, despite it only being around for a small period of time, it's become very popular amongst Juniors from the ages of 5-9 across our kura. Every Thursday students from Cultural Club come to Taiheke and do several activities based around cultures from all across the world. Some of our most successful activities this year have been The Kuki Airani Flower Headbands, Hands across the world painting, and our Samoan drumming lessons. The group was originally made for Tamariki to come and learn about Pasifika Culture but over time we have opened up to cultures from all across the globe. This year has been very successful. Let's hear from the cultural leaders and see what they would like to reflect on from this past year.

Dilisha - I enjoyed seeing all the kids engage in all cultures from around the world and doing the small scavenger hunts warmups.

Laisa - Every Thursday, cultural activities are held at the cultural club. Some of our most successful activities have been; Making samoan flower crowns, our across the world hand painting, and our different cultures myths and stories storytime. At the start of the year, it was originally called Pasifika club. Hosted for people who would like to learn more about Pacific countries, but we later decided it would be better to include all countries and cultures.
