It has been a bit of a stop-start term with Christchurch, along with the rest of the nation, going into lockdown for a period of time during the term. Aside from our regular diet of literacy, numeracy and integrated learning, students have been involved in art and sport options. The popular kapahaka and choir have again proven to be Friday favourites. We asked students to identify their highlights for the term. Here is what some of them had to say.

My highlight for this term was the Canterbury Primary Schools basketball tournament and winter sport. Winter sport was fun. I got in for hockey with my friend and I really enjoyed it

For basketball I trialed for the South West Girl's team. I got into the team and we went to the south west zones and got second. Then we went to Canterbury's and got 8th. I really enjoyed basketball and winter sport. Another thing I enjoyed was arts rotation; I had a lot of fun in drama

My highlight for this term is the silhouette art. I really enjoyed creating a piece of art that was all about things that represented me such as me, my friends and much more. I also enjoyed doing rad rhythm with Mr Hillary. Another thing I liked doing was the writing test. I wrote about a girl named Missy who kept seeing faces in paintings, hearing strange noises and things were disappearing normally, stuff she really needed. The last thing I enjoyed was sports doing high jump, shot put, discuss and sprints.

My highlight this term was silhouette art because I like to do art. I also enjoyed the arts rotation. I got to do drama this term. My favourite part of drama was when we played experts. Something else I liked was high jump because I like to jump over the bar.

A highlight for me this term was doing silhouette art because I have enjoyed drawing things that represent me.

Also I have enjoyed doing sprints and the funny relays like bear crawl.

Another of my highlights is drums because we are working on a piece from Rad Rhythm

Something that I have really enjoyed this term was: when we would put marbles in the jar, and if we got it full, we got free time. Also I have enjoyed doing art, drama and drums; doing sprints, relays, high jump and discus. 

I also really enjoyed doing the mufti day on 24th of September which was when we wore mufti to school and brought a gold coin donation. 

A highlight was also when I tried out for the netball team.

Something that I have really enjoyed this term was practising athletics. I am so excited for when it is the actual athletics day. I also really liked winter sport. I did netball; it was so fun. I also enjoyed Arts rotation -visual art, drama and drum.

My main highlight for this term was designing an activity for my silver CARE challenges. I had to do diagram to show how I wanted it set out, get out the gear I need and then i set it up on Friday. I had heaps of fun seating up my activity. 

Another thing I enjoyed was winter sports. I tried out for netball and I got in the Oaklands A team. I really enjoyed the netball experience .

Another thing i enjoyed this term was basketball. I was in the Oaklands Heat team and it was really fun doing all the challenges and learning how to play. I am still gonna practice the most I can when I have time. 

I also really enjoyed practicing my narrative writing for the narrative writing test.

My highlight for this term was Oaklands School basketball. I really enjoyed basketball because I got to do it with my best friends. We won most of are games but of course we lost some. If we won all of are games, we would never learn new skills. I love doing basketball but sadly because of covid we lost some of our games. But I am so thankful that I got to do basketball. 

Another thing I really enjoyed was silhouette art. I really liked it because we got to draw things we like and colour them in.

My highlight for this term was basketball because I really like basketball and it's nice to have your favourite sport at your school. 

I also really enjoyed the Warriors visit because we got taught about hydration and lots of other things to do with sports (We also got lots of nice prizes).

Silhouette art was just amazing because It really shows who I am in a way that I really haven't thought about (Also It's a way that I quite like).

Something that I have really enjoyed this term is hockey because it was really fun and I liked how my team worked together. We won nearly every game. The only game we lost was when we played Westburn. We were in the lead but this good player got the goal. 

\My favourite game was the last one because I think that was our best game. I scored the most goals and we made heaps of passes. We made it into the zones, too. We won a game against someone who plays in my out of school team. That's what I enjoyed.

My highlight for this term is Winter Sport because it was my first time trying out netball. I really enjoyed the challenges like stepping, passing and staying 1 - 3 meters away from the person I was defending. There were some pretty tough games we played but I still really enjoyed netball for winter sport. On the plus side my team came 3rd in zones and we were able to go to the Canterbury’s (which were unfortunately cancelled).

My main highlight for this term is my Winter Sport because it was a good time playing soccer. My favourite game was when we won 14 - 0. 

Another highlight for me was basketball because for our last game we won against Halswell. 

Another highlight was my maths because I moved up to the year 6 level. I also enjoyed maths Prodigy. It really helped me with my maths and my skills. 

The Olympics and Paralympics were a big highlight. I was really happy with myself getting to do a Q&A with Erika Fairweather on zoom because she was in my club that I swam, and we learnt a lot about what happens at the olympics, and what you eat and do before your race as well.

My main highlight of this term was Winter Sport because I was in the A grade for football and we went to the winter tournament. Although we did not make it to the Canterbury event, I was happy with our team and what place we got. 

Another highlight was with my club JASI swim club. We had a zoom with Erika Fairweather Q&A. We learnt a lot of things about the Olympics and about her. 

My last highlight of the term was doing prodigy because I’m level 89, and I finished the ancient getting the 'astrial relic'.

A highlight from this term was when I played for the school for the basketball. My favourite thing was to get better at the sport while  having a lot of fun. My team was a really big team. We had an all year 5 team with me, Esther Logan, Aidan, James, Lucas Duncan, Alex and Emma. I also really enjoyed that we worked as a team although we lost most of the games.

My Highlight for Term 3 was athletics. I started with sprints and rotated round through 3 different activities including: sprints, discus and shot put. On the second time rotating around instead of sprints we did high jump. 

I enjoyed discus the most because it was fun and I threw the discus sort of far. I also enjoyed high jump because we don't do high jump that often and when we I really enjoy it.

In shot put I was in a group with Elizabeth, Gia and Sammy. We took it in turns throwing the shot put and there were other teams as well. Sprints was fun but also hard. I liked all the sports we did but my favourite was discus.

One of my highlights this term was silhouette art. This is an art where you get a white image of yourself and you put anything you enjoy or feel is important in your life e.g. games, people, pets etc. I did Minecraft, Fortnite, basketball, Among us, Tower battles, pizza, Mcdonalds Big Mac and youtube (with a couple of my favourite channels). 

I also really enjoyed writing including SSW, autobiography, and writing samples. SSW is sustained silent writing or free writing. I have been making a story called Travel Far and the Deadly Beach. An Autobiography is someone’s life written by the person himself. I was very proud of mine because it was the first one to finish and it's 100% the biggest. And my writing samples I am also very proud of. 

We also practised a lot of athletics. In practise I managed to jump the 88CM high bar, came 2nd in most of my sprint races, almost first!  In shot put and discus I did alright.

Finally I would like to talk about the marble jar. Basically, there's a jar and if we're good we get a marble to put into the jar. If we fill up the jar we earned free time. The free time involves: finishing off learning, playing outside, Minecraft Education and appropriate youtube videos etc, Thanks!
