Koru Games

Steve Ladbrook —

This week the Year 7/8s competed in the Koru Games

The Koru Games is a multi-day event with a variety of sports. Intermediate age students from schools all over the South Island compete in this event.

Netball - (Placing 12th)

This week the yr 7/8s had Koru Games, I was in the Netball A team. On Tuesday we won all three of our games, on Wednesday we won two of our games and lost two, then on Thursday we lost two games and won one. Overall in the whole competition for Netball, we got 12th place. We played really good as a team and you can see how everyone has improved since we first started training together.  (by Riley)

Volleyball Girls A - (Placing 6th)

This year for Koru games I chose Volleyball. We went to Rolleston to play, We had three teams 2 girls teams and one boy's team.On the first day ( Tuesday ) unfortunately it was cancelled due to the weather. But luckily that meant we had a more intense schedule on Wednesday. On Wednesday we had four games we won three out of the four games; the most annoying thing was that we lost by two points against Rolleston.Next day, on Thursday we had one game against Prebbleton who we lost against by 1 point. After, that the matches were made up depending on if we won or lost.We then won against Cashmere and lost against Rolleston again.Overall, we came 6th out of 36 teams.I was really proud of our team and how we played my favorite part was when we got a rally and won it.

Volleyball Girls B - (Placing 8th)

This week the volleyball girls B team did well. On Tuesday we did not play so we just played on the playground and that was fun. On Wednesday we had 5 games because we were going to play 3 games on Tuesday so the put the games in on Wednesday and so we won all of our games except for one, but we did well and we came 2nd in our pool and that was a great experience. On Thursday we had fun in the finals we played 3 games and we tried our best and the good thing was we came 8th out of 24 schools and we were really proud of that.

Volleyball Boys - (Placing 2nd)

The first of three days was cancelled due to the rain so the events that would’ve occurred on Tuesday were pushed to Wednesday along with the events on Wednesday. On Wednesday we played 3 games these were against Halswell, Queenspark, and Cashmere boys winning all three we went on to top 5. We played a round-robin of 5 teams consisting of Ashgrove, Queenspark, Middleton, and St Anne’s we were undefeated until the finals against St Anne’s.

Touch Rugby - (Placing 9th)

Our team went well. We won 4 games and lost 4 games and we had lots of fun doing it. It was a fun experiment for all the year 7. We will have fun doing it next year with the year 6 coming to play koru games with us next year.

Football Girls - (Placing 12th)

On Tuesday the 19 of September the year 7/8s koru games started I was in the girl's football team it was so much fun and it was hard work. On Tuesday we had two games to start with but we lost both we had a bye. On Wednesday we had three games and we lot two and had a draw with one of the team than on Thursday we had one game and we lost we were going to have two games but the other girls' team pulled out so the ref said that we just won 3/0. Overall I think my team did great at koru games and I am proud of my team.
