Huatau Review Term 1
Well here we are at the end of an interesting and exciting term of learning.
Our integrated learning this term has been focused on helping students to develop a strong sense of identity and well being while forming positive relationships. We have studied the Maori creation story with Ranginui (the sky) and Papatūānuku (the earth). Some students have produced some amazing Art work while others have created great slideshows on seesaw.
We worked on our mihi and even created visual mihi on seesaw and on a poster.
We have talked about ANZAC day and engaged in some activities about this important day.
Some of us even made some ANZAC biscuits.
During the term we enjoyed taking part in swimming lessons and free swims, the Top Team activities, completing our seesaw activities, using the ipads and chrome books and developing our Numeracy and Literacy skills. It was great having the caterpillars in our space. We have liked having mufti days too. Huatau students were really engaged in the Arts interchange where we go to participate in Drama, Dance or Music. Some students painted rocks - others will do this next term.
Highlights of Term 1
Lily Riding - "in Writing we wrote about ANZAC. We made a diary from the point of view of an ANZAC soldier called Jack Simpson. He helped a lot of soldiers up and down Shrapnel Valley. Then we got to make ANZAC biscuits. They were yum!"
Isla Masters - "I liked learning about the North Island, South Island, and Papatūānuku myths. I liked doing artwork about the myths. We drew a waka to show Aoraki and the brothers. I also really liked free swims!"
Mitchell Livesey - "I really like maths. We did takeaways, pluses and times tables! I also liked making ANZAC biscuits in literacy and writing about ANZAC Day".
Camryn Wiringi - "I liked doing fun multiplications in maths because we could count it up. I felt happy and good when I got it right! I liked when Miss O'Loughlin helped me write my words in literacy. She is a great teacher. I also really liked Top Team! We got all wet and it was lots of fun!".
Leo Channings - "I liked Top Team. I really liked the water activities because we had to stop the water from leaking and I got soaked! I liked in Maths that I could do a 'can do' after my 'must do' work.".
