Term 4, Week 2 in Review

Alex HORN —

A look back at a short second week.

Reading

In Mr Horn's reading class we have been reading in our heads and trying to maintain meaning by asking and answering questions about the story we have read. This is very difficult because at the same time as learning this we are also learning to read Junior Journals which are more complicated than regular stories.

Writing

Our narrative writings are trucking along. This week we wrote about settings and objects. We described a magical world, a gateway to the magical world, a key to open the gate way and a list of all the things we will take in a backpack on our adventure.

Maths

Mr Morehu's class have been making 3D shapes out of straws in their geometry unit.

In Mr Horn's maths class this week we were learning to split a times into place value times. So 15x12 becomes 10x10 and 10x2 and 5x10 and 5x2 and because we know our 10s, 5s, and 2s time we can figure out 10x10=100, 10x2=20, 5x10=50, 5x2=10. Then we add those answers together and get 100+20+50+10=180, so 15x12=180.

Topic

Next week we are beginning our healthy community project. This week we broke into groups: The Sky, the Sea, the Sand, the Waka, and the Mountain group.

We will begin production of an enormous art piece, as well as some smaller art pieces that reflect what makes a healthy community.

The Arts

We have finished our final rotation of the arts programme of 2018!

We have a catch up session for a missed session in Term 2 then we will be switching gears to focus on our Gala performance.
