Budding Writers!
The children in the Reception Hub write for various purposes and there is a particular focus each week.
The Guided Writing sessions support the child at their level in writing. Each week there is a focus and this is decided through observation and assessment.
Last week, the children worked on understanding and using compound words. This week they are understanding the difference when adding an 'ed' or 'ing' ending to their text.
There are many opportunities to write. The Alphabet Space and Writing Spaces are specifically designed through the reflection of the week. Other Action Stations, allow for ideas to happen 'on the spot' i.e a shopping list in the Whanau Corner, the Outside Space when making lists of whose turn it is next.
Casey the Caterpillar programme is based around a shared story following the adventures of Casey the Caterpillar and the friends she meets along the way. Throughout the story, the children are introduced to different shapes that, when put together in different combinations, form the letters of the alphabet.
Children spend a lot of time practicing these shapes in isolation and then move on to combining them to form letters correctly.
The children are very proud of their writing and often share it with other Hubs.
