Term 4, Week 2 In Review

Samantha Doig —

It has been another awesome week in our new hub 2 space... check out what we have been up to!

 lReading

This week for our reading sessions we all read the big book 'Alley Cat'. Guided reading groups were back in action this week. Students have done extremely well getting back into the routine of reading with their teacher, completing their follow-ups and booklets, and doing this all with a smile on their face. Mrs Griffiths is now completing Chapter Chat with lots of students as they focus on comprehension and new, tricky and interesting words. Mrs L and Miss Doig are practicing sight words, decoding skills, and building students' confidence, setting the students up for success with their reading.

Writing

This week we introduced a new type of writing... Letter Writing! Since Mrs L is new to our hub we thought the students could write letters to Mrs L introducing themselves and telling Mrs L some cool facts about themselves.

Maths

Miss Doig and Mrs Lutterman's maths groups focussed on number knowledge and strategy setting up three rotations for the students to move around including seeing the teacher, maths activities and a follow-up worksheet.

Mrs Griffiths began completing decompostion of numbers. This means breaking down equations to help students find new strategies to use to solve tricky problems.

Integrated Topic

For Integrated Topic, we have gone back into our groups for gardening, recycling, and research around orchards. Students were eager to get back into this as we completed some last term. Today we all did some gardeing planting our seedlings that New World donated to our Hub. We hope to grow these in our garden out the back!

Te Reo Maori

This week we have been practising incorporating Maori into everyday through saying kia ora and through sayng a morning, end of day and a kai karakia. We have been doing these each day making sure we are saying it in time with each other.

Physical Education

We have started preparing for Athletics. During PE time we have been getting outside pratsing jumping as far as we can, running around the field a few times and sprinting.
