Year 7 Glentui Camp 2021

Lance Muller —

Mixing together 4 crazy teachers, 7 energetic parents, 4 motivated head students and 63 keen Year 7 students provided the recipe for camp success at Glentui in 2021. Read all about our camp experiences below.

The  2021 Year 7 camp was held at Glentui Meadows from Wednesday 17 to Friday 19 March. We took a record number of students (63) with us this year. Thanks to Sue, Nadine, Kathryn, Scott, Sean, Andy and Joel who came along as parent helpers. Without them, camps like this simply could not go ahead and we are very grateful to them for volunteering their time.

The students rotated through 5 activities on camp. These were River Safety (including cliff jumping and waterfall sliding), Archery Tag, Bivvy Building, Orienteering and Damming the creek!

The first night was wet and we put our inside time to good use with a night of entertainment from both students and teachers. The second night saw us playing a giant game of spotlight under a cloudless sky.

All in all the camp was a great success with everybody pushing themselves out of their comfort zones.

Read what some of the students had to say about their camp experience below.

Name: Dominic

Top Moment/s: My top moment of Glentui camp was the look on Cohen’s face when Miss Dench moved his bag and only his bag. In bunk inspection and found his gluten stash hidden behind the lost whiteboard. That had ‘COHEN’S UN-GLUTEN FREE FOOD STASH, HANDS OFF’ written on it. Cohen topped it off by saying “Wait I can explain… RUN!!!” and then legged it out of the room. This is because it was hilarious and I wish I had on video so I could watch it a million times.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge at Glentui camp was having to walk up and down 183 (ish) steep steps a million times a day for 3 days in a row. This is because your legs enjoy going down but after you have done all the physical activities your legs are screaming when you go back up.

Name: Aurora

Top Moment/s: At camp my top moments were doing the talent show with Cohen. I sang Sea Shanty and Cohen was doing the beat. Climbing the 183 steps - going down was good but I did not like going up.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was playing Spotlight. It was hard because the teachers kept on thinking I was Zara or Lanica. Jumping off the waterfall I did not like it at first. Then they said to jump when you like so I jumped. It was sooo cold. The next biggest challenge was sleeping. It was hard to sleep in my bunk room while everyone was talking.

My next big challenge was eating all of that cereal. I ate like 5 bowls of it and 4 bits of toast.

Name: Cohen

Top Moment/s: My top moments are when we did the talent show with Aurora because it really pushed me out of my comfort zone and it was cool because we also won 2nd place.

Biggest Challenge: Was sleeping because it was very cold and all the birds were like “tweet tweet” aka it was really annoying.

Name: Myra

Top Moment/s: My top moments were the waterfall jumping and the slide because it was really fun and it was out of my comfort zone.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challengewas getting to sleep the second night because some people in the bunk room room were really loud.

Name: Lily

Top Moment/s: My top moments are the waterfall jump and the slide because it was really fun and I really pushed myself to do it.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was getting to sleep the first night because some people in my bunk room were having trouble sleeping and they were making noises and that made me stay awake. But then the second night I had a great sleep.

Name: Sophia

Top Moment/s: My top moments are jumping off the side of the waterfall and sliding off the waterfall.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was sleeping because people in my bunk room would not stop talking and I could not go to sleep.

Name: Paulo

Top Moment/s: My top moments at camp are jumping off the waterfall because I had a blast doing it.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was going up and down the 183 steps around 4-5 times at least!

Name: Charlize

Top Moment/s: My top moment at camp was jumping off the waterfall because I have never jumped/ slid off a waterfall before.

Biggest Challenge: Walking/climbing up 183 stairs for most of the activities because my legs were not used to it.

Name: Jessica

Top Moment/s: My top moment from camp was the feeling on the cold waterfall streaming across my back as I zoomed down the slide. This is because I have never felt so exhilarated and happy.

Biggest Challenge: I feel that my biggest challenge was learning how to fire the bow and arrow. The reason for this is because I am a clumsy person and it takes me a while to learn something. But in the end I understood how to fire it and had lots of fun.

Name: Max

Top Moment/s: I had many fun experiences at Glentui Camp but if I had to choose some they would probably be in the following order. Firstly, I largely enjoyed River Safety, as it put me out of my comfort zone and jumping from the cliff into the pool and sliding down the waterfall was a realling exhilarating challenge.

Another of my highlights was Archery Tag as it was a really enjoyable way of exercising and it also needed concentration and skill because you needed to learn where to aim and how hard to pull it back to make a good shot. One part of archery tag that particularly made me laugh was shooting Miss Dench while she had a bucket on her head.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge probably was walking up the 183 steps several billion times it seemed liked, with several different types of attire, including a soaking, dripping wetsuit on as well as a lifejacket and a helmet and a jersey and track pants at 9:30 at night. Walking up those stairs was enough exercise for me today!

Name: Zach W

Top Moment/s: My top moments at camp were jumping off the waterfall because I greatly enjoyed the sensation of hanging in the air for a few seconds before splashing into the icy cold water which was cold enough to take my breath away. Another thing I majorly enjoyed was the Archery Tag where we got to fire arrows at our teachers and classmates which was great fun, especially when you managed to hit someone.

Biggest Challenge: The biggest challenge for me would have to be walking up the 183 steps from the bottom of the camp up to the top many times including in the dark and in a dripping wetsuit.

Name: Nikhill

Top Moment/s: I had some amazing experiences at camp but my most favourite would be the teachers skit where Mr Brown scared 7 students including me by hiding with his face under a bucket and when we lifted it he yelled “argh”.

Biggest Challenge: Walking up and down 183 steps for almost every activity.

Name: Nicole

Top Moment/s: My top moment was when I slid down the waterfall. Even though I’m scared of heights I still gave it my best shot. The water was freezing though.

Biggest Challenge: There were many challenges there but I think the biggest challenge for me was to go up and down the 183 steps for most of the activities we did there.

Name: Ryan

Top Moment/s: My top moment at camp was when I jumped off the cliff of the waterfall it felt really weird like I was going to die or something like that.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge at camp was trying other food that I usually don’t have at home.

Name: Pixie

Top Moment/s: Hitting Miss Dench with an arrow in archery. Also I enjoyed playing spotlight because I was so close to getting the light.

Biggest Challenge: Sliding down the natural water slide because I'm scared of heights. One of my other challenges was sleeping in a bunkroom the first night because some people were being annoying and making some noises.

Name: Willow

Top Moment/s: My top moment is when we were playing a game of archery tag and I was hiding behind a blowup shield thing and turned around to find that it had fallen over and somehow I didn't get shot.

Biggest Challenge: The biggest challenge I faced at camp was the night because all the boys upstairs would keep jumping and hitting the ground or doing something like that and it made a very loud sound so it was hard to sleep.

Name: Charlotte W

Top Moment/s: My top moment has got to be getting revenge on Mr Muller in archery tag, we did it by when he was sitting is the bucket the whole group sneaked up closer so that we were only like 2 metres away from him and I got him in the stomach because he hit me in the leg and it left a bruise.

Biggest Challenge: The biggest challenge for me has to have been sliding down the natural waterfall and it's not because im afraid of heights (because i'm not) it was because when I was going down it I didn’t realise that it went in like a curve and that you fall straight down, so I got a big fright and it didn't help that it wasn't a very diagonal and you kind of fell anyways but you were still touching the rock and dirt that made up the slide.

Name: Jasper Qian

Top Moment/s: My top moment was when I jumped off the waterfall I was so nervous but I still jumped down.(Also I feel I'm gonna die!)

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge in camp was in the second dinner. I was eating rice and vegetables, when in the end part I thought the hot chili sauce was tomato sauce. My mouth was so spicy and I drank so much water, 2000 YEARS LATER I finally finished my dinner my belly was so full and everybody was laughing at me.

Name: Lucca

Top Moment/s: Archery tag was amazing and the indescribable feeling of hitting people with arrows especially the head boy was the best.

Biggest Challenge: It was extremely hard to climb up 183 stairs.. I had to climb up them at least 3 times a day.

Name: Laura

Top Moment/s: My top moment was playing spot light because I enjoy listening to the teachers trying to guess what student it was, and I enjoyed trying to get up the little bank to get the red light.

Biggest Challenge: The biggest challenge was jumping off the rock into the water because I was worried that I would hurt myself or I would hit a rock on the way down.

Name: Cameron

Top Moment/s: My top moment at camp was Archery Tag because it gave me a smooth feeling and I shot one of the parent helpers. I also enjoyed damming the creek because we worked as a team and managed to stop most of the water and I fell a few times.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was River safety because I don't act well in the cold and I have a fear of heights so when I went into the little pond next to the waterfall I felt like an iceberg.

Name: Aashvi

Top Moment/s: My top moment at camp was dam the creek because me and my team made a really good dam and we were able to stop most of the flow.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge at camp was river safety because I have a really big fear of heights but I did both of the jumps and it felt really nice to do it.

Name: Jack

Top Moment/s: This year 2021 Glentui camp my top moment was my bunk mates because I thought that we would be VERY VERY NOISY and not go to sleep until like 1.00 oclock but surprisingly we were good.I also love playing Spot light but next time I need to bring my other completely black shoes because Miss Dench kept spotting me because of my white and black shoes so next time I'm going to bring my BLACK SHOES.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was walking up and down the stairs about 10 times. Also my other challenge was to headshot Mister Muller but he actually head shotted me 2 times, so next time Mister Muller watch out!!

Name: Zara

Top Moment/s: My top moment at camp was archery tag. I got the baddest bruise on my arm but it did not hurt that much, I like archery tag because I was pretty good at it.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was definitely climbing up all those stairs, because it was a work out everyday just climbing up the stairs after going down.

Name: Honour

Top Moment/s: My top moment from Glentui Camp 2021 was during River Safety, jumping off the cliff because I risked myself jumping off the cliff if I was honest. I think it looked pretty high even though I had only done the small jump that was 3m. We did not have enough time to jump off the 6m.

Biggest Challenge: The biggest challenge for me was the 183 stairs. I mean at least I was not the only one that could not even feel my legs but when you go down it's not that bad but when you go up it's like extremely bad. It feels like you don't even have legs. If you were an athlete person you would probably think it would be a piece or cake.

Name: Kaitlyn

Top Moment/s: My top moments for Glentui Camp 2021 were walking up 183 steps for every activity. Some of my top moments were jumping off the water fall. I jumped 3m and slid down the 5m slide. It was so much fun. The orienteering was good because we had to walk up 183 steps 3 times and walk all the way to the end of the round where one of the clues was.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was going out of my comfort zone for the waterfall because I have never jumped and slid off a waterfall before.

Name: Josie

Top Moment/s: This year for 2021 we went to Glentui Meadows camp. Some of my top moments were, orienteering (surprisingly) normally i’d hate orienteering because it’s a lot of walking around on uneven paths but my group with Kathryn won so I was happy. She also gave us chocolate when we were walking around getting them all.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge this year was walking up and down lots of steps (183 to be exact, yes Mr Brown’s group took the time to count) at least we’d all be getting fit, it would have been even better if we’d stayed for a week!

Name: Mya

Top Moment/s: My top moments for Camp are River Safety because I jumped off three meters as well as sliding down the water full.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge on camp was going up and down 183 steps; it was a lot.

Name: Rae Anne

Top Moment/s: One of my top moments at camp was Archery Tag because it was enjoyable making the person deaf inside the yellow bucket. As well as playing spotlight at night, other students swapped jackets and beanies so the teachers couldn’t guess who they were.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge at Glentui camp was going up and down the 183 steps, the stairs made me more tired than the other activities that we did.

Name: Arman R

Top Moment/s: My top moment for Glentui camp 2021 was when the teachers pranked some of us in the bunker. They pranked us by putting Cohen´s secret gluten cookies jar. At first I actually thought it was real.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge for Glentui camp 2021 was sliding down the 5m waterfall because I went out of my comfort zone and it was actually fun but cold.

Name: Cassie

Name: Matthew

Top Moment/s: My favorite moment was when my group played Archery Tag as our first activity because we all had lots of fun and the arrows didn't hurt.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was going up and down the steps a billion times

Name: Lila

Top Moment/s: My top moments were Archery Tag because it was fun and it taught me how to shoot an arrow. I loved shooting Miss Dench with a bucket on her head and I loved spotlight because when the teachers looked at me they caught me dabbing and they laughed. I was tired after walking up and down all 183 stairs and I enjoyed doing the camp concert. I came 2nd place and I did the cha cha slide and people were joining in with me and it made me happy and I was a good helper telling people to go to the dining room for dinner.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was walking through cold water at River Safety because it almost turned me into icicles.

Name: Charlotte O

Top Moment/s: One of my top moments was the talent concert because it was so fun to see all of the different acts. I was scared to do my act which was dancing to scary music. One of my other top moments was spotlight because I have never played spotlight before and the teachers did not find me and I was in an earthquake turtle pose with my fuzzy jumper. I looked like a mossy rock. But my favorite moment was bivvy building because it was fun and one of my group mates was trying to sabotage the other teams.

Biggest Challenge: The biggest challenge for me was the 183 steps because they hurt my legs and we had to climb them up and down a dozen times and also a challenge for me was the bugs because by the end of the camp I had a dozen red bug bites.

Name: Zach H

Top Moment/s: Having the courage to jump off the side of a waterfall because it’s not every day I have the chance to jump off the side of a waterfall.

Name: Leandre

Top Moment/s: My top moments are, sliding off a waterfall, shooting Mr Muller in the head, getting the arrow in the bucket and having COOKIES for snacks, going down the 183 steps and free time.

Biggest Challenge: Jumping off the waterfall because I really didn't want to jump but when I did it, it felt like I was flying.

Name: Angel

Top Moment/s: One of my top moments at camp was the Archery Tag because I got to shoot Miss P and it was really fun learning how to do Archery for the first time. Another one of my top moments was damming the creek because we found a huge tree trunk and we had to try to lift it to the dam.

Biggest Challenge:

My biggest challenge at camp was going up and down the 183 steps because it was challenging to go up and down and I was not used to going up that many steps and having to do it multiple times a day, it was extremely tiring.

Name: Harlow

Top Moment/s: One of my top moments of camp was playing spotlight because I won.

Biggest Challenge: one of my biggest challenges was bivvy building because our tent/shelter kept on falling or breaking, we made our tent after we had made an unsuccessful shelter.

Name: Kade

Top Moment/s: Bunk room inspection because I enjoyed the look on Miss Dench’s face when Nikhill grabbed her foot and shined a torch on his face and said “He He Boi”

Biggest Challenge: Making a dam because it was hard and we didn't get it done because the water kept flowing past.
