Here's what the netball teams got up to this year!

This year Oaklands School returned to participating in winter sports. For six exciting weeks, one fantastic netball 7-a-side team and our brand new Fast 5 team showed determination, skill, and teamwork on the court.

A standout moment this year was the introduction of our Fast 5 team, which captured lots of attention and enthusiasm. This was our first time entering a team into this faster-paced type of netball. The inclusion of more boys made the style of the team more dynamic and fast-paced.

The team's performance this year not only showed their dedication and hard work but also highlighted the ever-changing dynamics within our netball community at school.

As we wrap up this year, looking back on the winter sports season, we can’t wait to carry on with this amazing opportunity in 2024.

Here are some top moments from the teams:

Kinjal: One of my top moments was getting picked for the southwest zone netball team. I enjoyed playing on the winter sports team and getting good results with my teammates.

Didi: My highlight of netball is being drafted for the A team. Another highlight is playing netball with new people even if we didn’t make it to Canterbury. I also really enjoyed competing and watching my friends play.

Amelia W: One of my favorite moments was cheering on my teammates and of course winning some games. I really enjoyed being GD and getting some intercepts.

Emily G: My highlight has been playing against all the other teams and seeing what their skills are like to compare them to ours, My other highlight is hanging out with my friends and having an amazing time at zones. This was an enjoyable experience for everyone who was chosen to do zones and we all had so much fun.A highlight I think we all had was that one time Ella had moldy lollies in her lunch box and didn't know they were moldy and shared them around with people.

Adan: My highlight of netball was playing and trying my best and watching everyone have amazing sportsmanship and seeing everyone getting along with each other.

Jessie: I have so many amazing moments from netball this year as we were able to include a fast 5 team. Also being able to help Emily Gilmour lead the 7-a side team where we had many successful games which led to having a super positive team environment. Another highlight was playing with some students from the fast5 team to play in the South West Zone Winter Tournament, where we joined together so well and were able to have some great success, and one moment from that tournament was playing a friendly game and having my speaker blast during the game. I can’t wait to see the strength of the year 7’s coming through next year.

Alex: My highlight of fast 5 was playing with my friends. I also enjoyed playing a fast game of netball.

Grace B: One of my top moments from Netball was being able to play fast 5 as it was my first time playing. I felt that it was very different and also enjoyable playing with boys as I haven't had that experience before. I felt we played really well as a team and supported each other. Fast 5 was a very fast pace compared to 7 aside netball so it was quite different.

Dilisha: Some of my favourite moments in Netball were going to SW zones and competing against other schools and going to Hagley park for some games.
