Week 10 in Review
Check out what's been happening
Writing
As our writing hook, we completed another awesome experiment this time we used milk and food colouring and watched as the colours separated all over the plate when we dipped in dishwashing liquid.
Reading
During reading, we have been continuing our reading rotations. The children continue to be engaged in the reading rotations. We have Reading independently, Listening, Handwriting, Teacher and Follow up or reading games which work on key skills we focus on in reading.
Maths
In Maths, we are continuing to explore number knowledge and strategies. Knowledge is about what the children know about numbers eg the numbers before and after a number. Strategies are the way students solve problems given to them this could be adding 10s counting on, solving the problems in their head via imaging. We aim to have the children being able to tell us what strategies they have used and how they have solved problems. Some children are able to solve problems but are unable to tell us how. Maths-Whizz is a supplement to our maths programme and doesn't give an accurate measure of where the children are working.
Maori
We have been completing a rotation for Maori each Friday. The three rotations include students writing their individual mihis, practising te reo Maori and the school songs, and also practising their te reo Maori pronunciation. We have also started making stars for Matariki celebrations.
Big Book
This week's big book was "The Great Shape Race in Outer Space", where we looked at the rhyming words as there was a few. We also discussed what she's we could see.
At the end of the week, we made wee paper rockets with straws the kids loved seeing how far they can blow them we hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
Kelly Sports Thursdays
Each Thursday we enjoy a session with visiting coach Hugh from Kelly Sport. Hugh has been teaching us a range of games requiring little or no equipment. This Thursday, Hugh taught us the techniques for catching a ball. We are to catch the ball using a cup, not a crocodile mouth. Hugh was very impressed with how well the Year 2s did with catching.
Sausage Sizzle
On Thursday the children enjoyed a yummy Sausage and a Juicy from the Sausage Sizzle.
Mufti Day
Today we had an environmental mufti day to represent our battle against plastic. The children dressed in theme and looked fantastic.
Well done to our Eco Warriors, in the senior school who are doing such a great job to spread awareness.
