Welcome to Term 3!

Take a read below at what is coming up this term:

It's been such a joy having all the kids back in school this week! We love seeing their bright smiles that bring our classrooms back to life. As we get into the swing of the new term, we're super excited to dive into our new topic.

This term our focus for learning is structures in nature and structures in our universe. For the first 5 weeks students will be learning:

  • the difference between living and non living things

  • how to draw and label the parts of a plant or an animal

  • the difference between plants and animals

  • the requirements that plants and animals need to survive (Water, food, shelter, air, light, space etc)

  • the processes that plants and animals need to survive (Mrs Gren - movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth,  reproduction, excretion, nutrition)

  • to compare the life cycles of plants and animals


In the last five weeks of term the focus will be exploring the structure of our solar system. Students will be:

  • learning that the Sun does not move, the Earth rotates around the Sun.

  • Describing the structures of the solar system.

  • Understanding the relationships in space between the moon, the earth and the sun (Year 1 - 4)

  • Understanding the relationships in space between the moon, the earth, the sun, our galaxy and the universe (Year 5 - 8)

  • Sharing ideas and communicating observations about the sun and the moon and their physical effects on the heat & light available to Earth

  • Learning how myths and legends have been created to explain phenomena prior to humans explaining it scientifically
