Term 2 in Patere Year 3

Sandra Seil —

The Production was fun, Technology Day was really good, but I liked the learning most of all this term. This is what one of our tamaraki had to say when we all reflected on our term together.

We started the term learning about Anzac Day. During this time we learnt about how poppies are associated with Gallipoli, and learnt how many animals also helped our soldiers. One of the highlights was learning a new Sign Language song about Anzac Day.

We then moved onto learn about Light and Sound. This helped us to prepare for the Production by knowing how light and darkness work together, and how sound is made. Most of this learning was through Science experiments which everyone enjoyed. We learnt how to think like a Scientist, asking “why” the results of the experiment happened.

After learning about Light and Sound, we used our learning to design costumes and practise the songs we had learnt for the Production. During the last two weeks of the term we fine tuned our performance, while also learning about Matariki and doing some activities that are associated with Matariki.

To end the term, the whole school activity was Technology Day yesterday. When reflecting at the end of the day, Minecraft and Scratch were popular favourites, however many couldn’t decide which activity was their favourite.

Reflecting back on such a busy term, it was clear that there was an even split between Technology Day and the Production being the highlight of the term for the majority of the class. Overall, the engagement and enjoyment shown throughout the term, in all learning, was clear to see.
