An outline of Term 4

Lance Muller —

The next ten weeks promise to be some of the most exciting and entertaining of the year. We are all looking forward to an action packed and exciting term.

They say that time flies when you are having fun. If this is true, Term 4 promises to flash by in the blink of an eye.

We have an action packed and exciting term planned in the Year 7/8 Hub. Read on for an outline of what will be up to.

Formal Dance

The year 7/8 Formal is scheduled for Wednesday 18 December at 7pm. The formal will once again be an opportunity for us to showcase the formal dance learning that we will be doing throughout the term. This week the students voted in a Formal Committee. Congratulations to Joey, Sam Taylor, Ella,Keira and Zara for being selected. The Committee will begin the process of organisation this week, staring with selecting a theme. More info to come out about this in due course.

Food For Thought Programme

We will be participating in the Food for Thought Programme in Weeks 2 and 5 of this term.  Driven by the combined North and South Island Foodstuffs cooperatives, Food for Thought is a school-based programme dedicated to the future of New Zealanders and their local communities by educating and empowering children to make healthier, informed nutrition choices and understand ‘why’ they are making them. A letter outlining this programme should have come home this week. Please make sure that you have read it as we do need parent help for one of the sessions.

Korfball

This week we started our Term 4 Korfball Programme. Yourri and Torsten from Korfball Canterbury will be assisting us each Tuesday for the next 6 weeks. The students will learn and play the game of Korfball. Korfball takes elements of both Netball and Basketball and combines them into a fast paced an exciting game. Be sure to ask your child about their Korfball experience.

Water Safety at Pioneer Pool

In week 8 of this term all of the Year 7/8 Students will have the opportunity to participate in a Water Safety Programme at Pioneer Pool. We will travel to and from Pioneer by bus, each afternoon for the whole week. This promises to be another exciting Summer, Term 4 learning opportunity. More info to come in due course.

Uniquely New Zealand.

As part of our build up to the Year 8 Wellington Camp in Week 9, we will be conducting a unit of learning called Uniquely New Zealand. This will see us focussing on learning about Parliament, NZ at War, The Treaty of Waitangi and The Suffragette Movement. All students will participate in this learning with the Year 8 group taking things one step further by visiting many of the locations, exhibits and places we learned about on their Wellington trip.

Year 8 Wellington Trip

This is scheduled for Week 9 of this term. Tuesday 10 - Friday 13 December. There will be an alternative programme for the year 7 group while we are away.

Our New Learning Space

As well as all of this we will be moving house! We don't like to do things by halves in the year 7/8 Hub!

We had a tour of our (nearly finished) new space this week. We are very excited about what lies ahead and cannot wait to get into our new space. It will be a fabulous environment for learning.

We will be busy!

In between all of the above we will continue to fit in a bit of Reading, a bit of Writing, a bit of Maths, a bit of Mandarin, a bit of Technology, a bit of Buddy Programme and a bit of Te Reo Maori.

As always we are more than happy to discuss school related matters with you and we welcome communication in person and/or by email.

Warm regards

Lance, Sarah and Bryan
