GRIP Leadership Conference 2019
22 of our Student Leaders attended the GRIP Leadership Conference on Wednesday 10 April 2019.
The GRIP Student Leadership Conference is unique in that it concentrates specifically on training student leaders for their role as SCHOOL LEADERS. The style, topics, and content of this conference all focus on what the students can do RIGHT NOW to make a difference in their school.
The goal of the conference is that student leaders gain a clear vision, a solid understanding and dozens of ideas for their time as leaders.

GRIP Leadership Conference Attendees 10 April 2019.
Ella Wilson - I enjoyed how we had to mix with the other students there, it pushed you out of your comfort zone. I learned about the 4 character traits of a leader, confidence with humility, others focused, reliability and empathy. Something I have taken away from the conference is leadership is about people not position or power. Overall I thought GRIP was a great experience.
Sam Iffland - I thought that GRIP leadership was good. I enjoyed getting pushed out of my comfort zone. It was nice to get to know some of the kids from the other schools. My favourite part was the loud noise boys because they were pretty funny and they were really enthusiastic. Overall it was a pretty good day.
Zara Munro - I really enjoyed the conference we had a few laughs but I also learnt a lot. I learnt that when you are a leader you contribute your strengths. We also had to go out of our comfort zone and talk to people from different schools. What I have taken back from the conference is to contribute the necessary tasks that are less enjoyable. Overall the GRIP Leadership Conference was a really fun experience and I had a really fun day.
Jack Wells - I thought the Grip Leadership Conference was a good way of us getting to know the other leaders from the other schools. I enjoyed learning about the 4 character traits, confidence with humility, others focused, reliability and empathy and those are the qualities of a good leader. My favourite part was the loud noise boys because they were enthusiastic and always had high energy levels and they were also really funny. Overall I thought it was a pretty good day at the Grip Leadership Conference.
Liam Scott - I enjoyed the GRIP leadership training it was fun and we got to learn a lot of new things. The best part that I enjoyed was watching the movie clips and trying to figure out what value the character was displaying.
Karlie Wright - The GRIP Leadership Conference was really fun and a great experience. We learnt about the four character traits that make up a leader (Confidence with humility, Others focused, Reliability and Empathy) and how we can make a difference to our team, class and society. I enjoyed doing the activities the loud noise boys gave everyone and their funny performances. I found interacting with the students from the other schools very challenging as it pushed me out of my comfort zone. Something I’ve taken from the conference is leadership is about people, not position or power. '
Hannah Wallace - I really enjoyed the GRIP conference because there were lots of fun activities to do. I liked it when we had to interact with kids from other schools because it pushed you out of your comfort zone. It was fun because the loud noise boys came and did fun games and activities. I learnt the four character traits of a leader, Empathy, Confidence with Humility, Reliability, Others focused.
Annabel Keylard - I really enjoyed the GRIP conference because they made it fun with the loud noise boys and it was really interesting and we got to interact with other people from other schools which was really fun.
Aysha Henderson - I enjoyed learning about The 4 CORE character traits of a leader. They are confidence with humility, others focused, reliability and empathy. The one that I think I need to work on is the Reliability. Something else I learned was to influence your school spirit and culture. Something that I have taken away from this conference is that leadership is about people not position or power.
Caleb Mears - I enjoyed how when we got ideas about what the core values meant to us or how to raise the culture in our school. We also went around the room and talked to other students from different schools and got their ideas. We watched some movie clips and we had to assign them a core value that we thought a specific character showed: Confidence with humility, Others focused, Reliability and Empathy. I liked it when we had to think of a cause that our school could support and how we could support it.
Libby Thomson - I really enjoyed GRIP because we got to do lots of fun activities and learn how to be better leaders. I learnt that the 4 core traits of a leader are confidence with humility, others focused, reliability and empathy. Something I really enjoyed were when the loud noise boys came out and also when we were able to talk to leaders from other schools.
Caitlyn Stewart - I really enjoyed the GRIP leadership conference because I got to learn lots of great tips. I learnt how to be a good leader and the core values of a being a leader too. Something I have taken from the conference is that I need to listen to others and remember the core values and that other people look up to you. My favourite part was the loud noise boys because I found it really fun and I looked forward to it at every session.I also liked being able to work with other schools to do the jobs in our booklet. Overall really enjoyed the day.
Yasindu Ambegoda - I really enjoyed the GRIP leadership Conference. We learned a lot from the GRIP team and had a lot of fun to with the loud noise boys. They were my favourite part of the day. I liked how the GRIP team make learning very enjoyable and interesting. In the first session we learnt about the 4 core values of a leader Confidence with Humility, Others Focused, Reliability and Empathy. We also watched 4 clips from movies and linked the 4 core values to different characters. It really took me out of my comfort zone. It also got us a chance to Meet new kids from other school and share our ideas with them. We also learnt how to get our school more cultural and learnt about the leadership pathway. Something that I took away from the GRIP leadership conference was that Leadership is about people not position or power and Contribute to the necessary tasks that are less enjoyable. Overall the GRIP leadership conference was fun and a really great experience to go to and I had a lot of fun. If I could I would have gone to the conference again.
Dania Banoori - I really enjoyed the GRIP Leadership conference because, we didn’t have to sit down the whole time and there was lots of different activities. I also enjoyed learning about the 4 CORE character traits, Others Focused, Empathy, Reliability and Confidence with Humility. The loud noise boys were so much fun because we got really excited and loud when they came my favourite part was the part when he dressed up as the singer and did the role play with other students attending the GRIP leadership conference. I was proud when our team won the game when one person was blindfolded and they had to describe the word and the person with the blindfold on had to guess the word. Something that I have taken away from the GRIP Conference was that the 4 CORE traits of a leader because I think that is very important. Something I learnt from the GRIP conference is that leadership is about people not position or power.
