What's coming up?

Sarah Baker —

Here is a brief outline of what we are doing in our hub for the first five weeks.

Integrated Learning

Our focus this term is Building Sustainable Practices - Protecting our Fragile Planet.

Big Idea: Building Sustainable Practices. How can I protect the planet and its dwindling resources?

Our Literacy will focus on front-loading students with information around unsustainable practices such as Climate Change and Overfishing.

Our Hub Integrated Learning Modelling Book can be found here

Strand Maths

Our focus for the first 4 weeks of term is Measurement - Time and Temperature. It took us by surprise to learn the number of students who are learning how to tell the time (Analogue).

Please encourage your child to share some of their learning with you.

Physical Education - Koru Games

Koru Games is held on 17th-19th September. More information can be found at the Koru Games website.

This week students have selected which sport they would like to play in this competition. Sports that students could choose from were Netball, Football, Touch Rugby and Volleyball. Due to limited spaces in each team, trials will be held throughout this term. Practices/Trials will be held during our Physical Education time on Tuesday afternoons. It is expected that all students actively participate in fitness sessions in preparation for this competition.

We are requiring parents who are able to assist with coaching these teams. If you are able to help please let Bryan, Lance or Sarah know.

Home Learning Expectations

40 Book Challenge - students should have read approximately 11 books by now to ensure the challenge is complete by the end of the school year. New library books can be issued from our Hub Library.

IXL - students should be completing 1 hour of IXL each week.

Te Hapua

Later this term 7/8BB will be participating in 6 sessions of fun and learning, based around photography and 3D design and printing.

More information will come closer to the time.

Learner Portfolios

On the last day of Term 1 you would have received a link to your child's Learner Portfolio showcasing their work for the term. Students will be continuing to add to their portfolio throughout the year.

If you did not receive this link please let Bryan, Lance or Sarah know.
