Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)

Lynette Stinson —

Oaklands Te Kura o Ōwaka is a Restorative School that uses the Positive Behaviour for Learning framework to ensure that students are socially and emotionally ready to learn.

Rationale:

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) Restorative Practice is a consistent, school wide system of support which promotes positive, respectful relationships across the school and community.

It offers staff and students techniques to restore relationships when things go wrong.

It aims to minimise problem behaviour and maximise and celebrate positive social and academic behaviours.

There is:

  • a clear set of positive expectations for all students and staff linked to our CARE values.

  • a set of procedures for teaching expected behaviours.

  • a continuum of procedures for encouraging expected behaviours and discouraging inappropriate behaviours.

Oaklands Acknowledgement Systems: CARE

We want our learners to show Community (Whanaungatanga), Active Thinking (Whakaaroaro), Respect (Whakaute), and Excellence (Hiranga) at all times, in all settings, whether they are in the classroom, at break times or in the wider community.

We have CARE cards which are handed out to students who show the CARE values. When students receive 10 CARE cards they swap them for a token which is used to vote for a whole school reward at the end of the term.
