What's been happening in the 7/8 Hub

Sarah Berquist —

Integrated Learning -

Big Idea - What qualities will we need to develop at school so we can make a positive contribution to our community now and in the future?

The 7/8 Hub have found a need and have decided to take action by contributing to the school community. Students have noticed the quality of videos at assembly need a bit of work.

Students have decided that we are going to give support to teachers and students about how to make successful videos by creating video tutorials, posters , slide shows and pamphlets to teach them the required skills. Research is currently underway as to what is required to make good quality videos and are now planning how we can present our findings to the students and staff when making videos.

Life Education -

Students have been attending sessions in the Life Education classroom this week. The focus for these sessions has been around the brain.

Tamihana, Aysha and Maxim had their body scanned so everyone could see their brain, heart and lungs working as they were running on the spot. Students have discussed the changes they go through during puberty and how it needs to go through a process of rewiring as our bodies change and we move from a child to an adult brain.

We worked through the choices and decision making burger . Choices and decisions that we make are based around information, consequences and influences. There are many influences that are placed on us; time, friends, school, peer pressure, family, media, role models and personal preference.

We started talking about peer pressure and looking at video examples of how this may happen. The focus on peer pressure will continue on Monday when we have our final Life Education sessions.
