This week in the Year 1 Hub we have started learning about and exploring what fractions are. 

WALT identify fractions e.g. 1/2 and 1/4

For our introduction lesson we explored all the different types of fractions we can put together to make a whole. For example, we discovered that 4/8 is the same as a 1/2!

We had lots of fun working together to learn about fractions and try out different combinations. We also learnt how to say each of the fraction symbols. 

We are going to start looking at finding half/quarter of numbers e.g. What is half of 12? and finding the fractions of different shapes.

How can you use fractions at home:

Cooking/Baking - You can talk about fractions at home by using measurements like 1/2 cup and 1/4 cup or you could cut food into halves or quarters. 

Online game - Here is a fun online game that your child could use at home on a computer/device
