Here's an update of the learning that is happening in Taiheke for the next five weeks!

Reading

In Reading, students are starting to develop their capacity to complete aw novel students which starts in Week 5. Students are going to be learning the key skills of how to complete these activities:

Vocab Builder: Students identify words that they are unsure of, define the word by finding the correct definition, and then they use that definition to create meaning by writing two correct sentences with the word. 

Themes: Within each book, there are multiple themes that are present E.g. Coping with Adversity. Students are given a theme for the week in their reading, they will then need to use specific parts of the text to explain how the theme is present in the text. 

Character Inference: Students will looking into a character each week that is present in their text. They will need to look in depth into the character to decide what kind of person they are from the actions and words that the character uses in the text.

Writing

In Writing, we have started our unit of learning around speeches. The students are learning about what a TED Talk is and how they are used to educate an audience. 

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we are preparing to enter the Cantamath competition. There are two ways that students will be entered into the competition, through a poster competition and also the Cantamath competition.

Integrated Learning

This term, the focus is Transformation. We will be looking at how heating and cooling changes things within our everyday lives. 

Choir Performance

This week we saw the senior choir perform at Anthony Wilding. Attached are some photos. 

Digitech

This week we introduced some robotics into the class. Attached are some photos. 

International Students

We have five new international students that have joined us for five weeks.
