The EPro8 Competition

Mark Sy —

EPro8 is an inter-school science and engineering competition for year 5-10 students. Pātere entered in 3 teams to compete! Check out the article to find out more about how we went.

This term, Oaklands School entered 3 teams into the EPro8 competition: Oaklands Team 1: (Team 1): Winston Woolford, Jesslyn Tan, Erica Yin and Matthew Mears. Oaklands Walruses (Team 2): Jessica McIntosh, Holly Brown, Charlie Barnes and Max McAlister. Oaklands Engineers (Team 3): Laura Bunn, Isis McKenzie, Zach Wallace and Taylor Scott.

The brief was to build a world-famous landmark and set off party poppers from a safe distance of 2 metres.

Team 1 created the Empire State Building, the world-famous skyscraper in New York City.

The Oaklands Walrus built the Golden Gate Bridge, the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world, located in San Francisco.

The Oaklands Engineers constructed the London Tower Bridge, the famous 19th-century suspension bridge in London.

This year is the first year a team from Oaklands has qualified for the event series. Oaklands Walruses came in the Top 11 meaning they move onto the next stage of the competition. But if only one team got into the event series, that means that the other 2 teams, unfortunately, did not make it.
