Waka Rima

Jane McLaughlan —

What is all that noise in our Waka? Production prep!

Do you have any old shirts? Can we please have some. If you do can you send them along to school. We will be using fluro paint that does not come out of fabric! This means we can start painting our instruments and costumes.

This week we were exploring sound for our Integrated Learning. We had a go exploring the Nature of Science. This means that when we do a science experiment we use all our senses, make predictions and trial things. We think like a scientist. We had a go with sound bars, chimes, water containers, bells, shells and musical instruments.

We have started collecting resources for our end of term production and thought about how we can make some instruments and props that will help us to get ready for our part in the show. Performing in front of an audience will be an exciting experience for us all and we are practising our dances and waiata.

On Wednesday we had a special mufti day to raise money for the Halswell Mens Shed. They made a wonderful house for the CHICKENS. The waka was humming with excitement and there was a variety of costumes and props that looked like chickens. We have finally voted for the names of our chickens 'Queen Lizzy', 'Butter', 'Bob' and 'Luigi'. They can be found in the garden near the bee area.

Congratulations to the students that achieved their 'Bronze' Certificate. These are presented during our CARE assembly each fortnight.

Please make sure that maths homework is done on SeeSaw. We can monitor all tasks that have been completed. Your child's maths teacher frequently puts tasks and activities to complete each week. The focus of the tasks is to consolidate what they have been learning in class. For Reading a take home book is sent home and is kept in the reading folder for a week to get reading mileage. Testing is currently happening for Numeracy, Writing and Reading.
