Week 7 - Welcome Back
This is the first week back from our extended lockdown.
Collaborative Art
We have been working on two collaborative pieces of art to bring us back together. The Year 7 Students have been working on the phrase 'He waka eke noa - We're all in this together' and the Year 8 Students have been working on the phrase 'Whiria te tangata - Weave the people together'. We have chosen these two phrases because we felt it was symbolic of what we are all going through at this time and how we all need to be strong together as one.
Don't Sweat The Small Stuff
This week Mr Muller had a massive tantrum, he kicked chairs, threw books and stormed away because Mr Brown moved his laptop. All to show the students that sometimes the small things are what can put us over the edge. As we move into this unit of work we will look at ways for us all not to sweat the small stuff. Please feel free to explore this phrase and meaning at home (from our class discussions) as many students stated they failed to show this when needing to unload the dishwasher at home.
Games Without Equipment
One of the important pieces of learning for students has been the need for them to learn to play games without equipment. As we move forward through the weeks of this term, this will remain important to maintaining hygiene and preventing the spread of illness.
What's happening in Weeks 7-12
Novel Study
Next week we will move into our first Novel Study for the year. This is a unit of learning where students have to apply a range of comprehension strategies to understand the novel and then complete the follow up reading activities.
Mathematics
We will now start to tie up the loose ends around the learning that students have completed over the lockdown. We will then start Number Knowledge and continue this for the remainder of the term.
Koru Games
At the moment, Koru Games is on and we are starting to prepare for this. This week students have been asked to fill in a Google Form to identify what sports the would like to trial for(Rugby 7s, Netball, Touch, Volleyball, Basketball and Football). Next week, we will give the students some core skills training before we move into trials. If you are able to help out by coaching a sports team for us, please contact Lance and he will give email or a call back to discuss this. At this time, our parent support determines what sports we are able to offer.
