Oaklands School Senior Choir doing themselves proud

geoffrey McCallum —

Last Friday night (October 30), 56 members of our Senior Choir travelled to Horncastle Arena to sing as part of the annual Christchurch Primary School's Music Festival. It was a wonderful occasion in front of nearly 3000 people. Every two years our choir performs in the festival and this year was our turn. The choir looked resplendent in their white shirts and neckties (for the girls) and we were very proud of their achievement. The theme of the festival was 'Ring of Fire' - looking at songs from countries that border the Pacific Ocean.

We sang along with nearly 1300 other Year 5-8 students and it was a fantastic experience. We are also looking forward to performing later on this term at the Senior Citizens Concert, our School gala, the opening of the new Halswell commintiy centre and performing at some retirement homes right at the end of term. A big thank you to Miss Harris and Mr McCallum for preparing us for Friday night.
