7/8 Hub Update.
As usual we have been busy and we also have lots coming up in the next few weeks as well.
Kauri Swimming Sports - This was held last Friday at the Halswell Outdoor Pool. The day was very successful and it was great to see so many of the year 7/8 students getting involved in the day. The students were fabulous at all times and even got a special mention from Mr Forman at the end of the event. Nice work team!
Well done to the year 7 students who qualified for Zones swimming. Year 8 students wishing to trial for zones swimming qualification will have their chance on Thursday 1 March at Jellie Park Pool. Zones swimming sports will be held at Wharenui Pool on 20 March. There is certainly lots in the calendar for our swimmers at the moment.
Leadership: The Year 7 and 8 students have all started their leadership roles for 2018. The Peer Mediators have already contributed very positively to the playground and the PALs have been attracting big groups to their activities. The Librarians have been helping Mrs Ward keep things running smoothly in the library and the Assembly Crew has been ensuring that school events are running smoothly.
It has also been great to see so many students setting goals to get leadership badges and completing home learning challenges as they work towards achieving their badge.
Year 7 Camp: This is scheduled for Wednesday 28 February to Friday 2 March. The year 8 students ( and any year 7 students not attending camp) will remain at school. They will be involved in a 3 day programme based around the Commonwealth Games and other big sports events. Mr McAven and Mrs Ellis will be looking after the group while we are away.
Testing: Over the next few weeks we will be doing some testing with our students. We will be starting with Maths Basic Facts and then AsTTle writing. Term 1 testing is repeated again in Term 3 to gauge progress.
Home Learning: A reminder that home learning expectations in the year 7/8 hub are 1 hour of IXL Maths each week and for students to continue reading novels/ books as they work towards their 40 book challenge. Home learning challenges are optional and are incorporated into the Leadership Badge Programme. Feel free to ask if you have any questions relating to home learning.
Hats and drink bottles: It is still very much a Summer term and all students are required to have a hat at school to wear during fitness, P.E. and at play times. Students without hats will be asked to sit under the shade umbrellas during these times. Please ensure that your child has a correct school hat at school. Drink bottles are not compulsory but are great for keeping students hydrated. They also minimise disruption to learning as students do not need to leave the room to get a drink. If possible, we ask that you please supply your child with a named drink bottle to use at school. We are happy for both drink bottles and hats to remain at school each day as this ensures that they are in class and ready to use again the next day.
