CantaMaths

Lance Muller —

A small group of year 7 and 8 students competed at the recent CantaMaths competition, held at Horncastle Arena on Wednesday 28 August.

Year 8 Team 2019

Rani: This year I got involved in the CantaMaths competition for the first time. I really enjoyed the competition because our team worked together well, and it was fun competing against other schools. Some of the questions were quite challenging and they pushed me out of my comfort zone. I really enjoyed all the times our team cracked jokes and had a good laugh on the way to the competition! Overall, CantaMaths was a fun experience!

Xiyi: This year I had my second experience at participating in the CantaMaths competition. I really enjoyed watching the year 7 competition and we all worked really well together. The best part for me was definitely driving to the tournament because it was AMAZING to watch Marcus annoy Caleb while me and Rani we giggling. Overall, the competition was a great second experience and I hope I get the chance to compete in the competition again!

Marcus: CantaMath this year was a really exceptional experience. We were given transport to the venue (Horncastle arena) by Andrea. The year seven competition was interesting because you can tell they’re thinking really hard but you’re clueless as to what question they’re doing or whether they know what they’re doing or not. Our part of the competition was very frantic. You just get totally caught up in it until you realise there’s 15 minutes left, Overall it was a great second experience and I hope to continue it into year nine.

Caleb: This year was my second Cantamaths experience which I was able to have with Marcus, Rani and Xiyi, as well as the year 7 team. This year the team worked really well together, so we weren’t all doing our own maths; we were helping and going along with each other. I like how some of the questions were challenging and un-expected as I love a good maths challenge. Watching the year 7 team was fun and also it gave the year 8 team some tips on what to do in our competition. I think that overall the entire competition is really well set out, but the MC really annoys me because he keeps announcing the team with the highest score, which usually isn’t us and we are a little behind. I hope I can participate in this event again because it is really a great experience.

Year 7 Team 2019

Matthew:I really enjoyed CantaMaths and running the questions up.I found the questions quite hard but helped to answer some.

Thomas: I really liked CantaMaths. At first I was nervous but after the first few questions I started to feel better. Over all I loved the experience.

Rose: I really enjoyed being part of the year 7 CantaMaths team. The questions were both hard and easy. I think we did well though because we got 45 points which meant we were in the top 50%.  Also it was fun watching the year 8 team too.

Iris: This year was my first year doing CantaMaths and I was super nervous during the competition. Some of the questions were hard but some of them were okay. I calmed down after the competition started and it was fun participating in CantaMaths and watching the year 8 competition. I really enjoyed it.
