It's been a busy week in the Year 7/8 Hub.

Lance Muller —

We have been busy in the Year 7/8 Hub this week.

This week we have achieved a lot.

In reading, we have been busy continuing with novel study.

We are pleased with the effort that most of the students have been putting in to their novel study each week. Overall we are happy with how well they are keeping to their reading and activity schedule. Next week sees the conclusion of the current round of novel study.

In writing we have completed a short and uplifting piece of writing titled ' Everything is not cancelled'

We are living through unpredictable times and sometimes it feels like all the good stuff is being taken away from us. This can leave us feeling a bit down. Now, more than ever it is important to focus on being grateful for the things we do have. Here are a few examples of some of the writing that we have done.

We are also doing some interesting learning based around using our strengths, to help us make big life decisions.

We have all done a careers survey this week. You should have received am email from your child with some information about this. If you have not yet received an email, ask them about the careers education they have been doing this week.

The students have all selected a job to research further. The range of jobs is very interesting and it has been nice to see the excitement and energy that has been generated by this unit of learning.

This week also saw the wrap up of the Epro8 Challenge.

Neither of our teams made the top 10, so we will not progress through to the next round. Our Year 8 team finished 18/29 teams and our year 7 team finished 24/28 teams. These are good results considering this is our first year of being involved in this competition. We are planning on making Epro8 challenges a regular part of our extension programme i.e. rotating groups through using the kit to complete a building challenge off of the website. This will hopefully build our capacity in this area and facilitate more success next year.

We also started our buddy Programme this week.

For the rest of this term the year 8 group will be assisting as ' Big Buddies' in the Year 1 Hub,each Friday. This is a rewarding time for both big and small buddies. It is amazing to see the Seniors living their Community Value as they assume the role of ' Big Buddies.' Next term will see the Year 7 students getting a turn at being Big Buddies.
