Winter Sport has finished for the year.

Grant Forman —

The popular Friday inter-school winter sport programme has concluded for Oaklands students.

Each year the winter sport programme is set to run for 10 weeks. The organisers always set the programme for 12 weeks of Fridays given that there has always been a couple of weeks lost to bad weather. This provides a buffer to enable 10 weeks of competition.

Based on this we calculated the cost of the bus for 10 weeks of sport and charged accordingly.

This year has proven an anomaly in that there has been no Fridays lost to bad weather. We were informed last Thursday that technically the next day - Friday (last Friday) was the end of the competition.

The organisers then asked for schools to identify if they wanted to continue for another two weeks. As we needed to reply by Friday 3pm we had to make the decision to finish as per the 10 week programme. To continue would have required further payment from parents for the extra two Fridays and there was no possible way that we could get your permission for this in 24 hours.

A number of schools are in the same position as us and have taken the same decision. There are some schools that have indicated they will continue and as such will be involved in Friday winter sport for two more weeks.

This Friday will be our day for uniform returns. Could all students involved in the Friday travelling winter sport teams (except the 5/6 A netball team) please return their uniforms (playing kit plus jacket) to school.

Uniforms should be in a named plastic bag - including name and team. Please ensure they are returned  clean and in good condition. Dirty uniforms will be returned to the student to take home and launder. We appreciate your understanding with this.

Students playing in an Oaklands basketball team DO NOT return their sport jackets with their winter sport uniform. Hold onto them as there are a few weeks left of basketball.
