Science Badges in Pātere

Frances Dench —

For Integrated Learning in Pātere, the students have been pursuing an area of Science by completing challenges to gain 20 stars and a Science Badge.

There are over 20 Science Badge areas for students to choose a passion from.

Stage 1

Students began the process by reading a brief definition of each science badge and picking their TOP 5.

Stage 2

From here they put their Top 5 into a document and ranked them on these 4 criteria using this scale and questions;

1 - Not really.

2 - A little.

3 - A lot.

  • How passionate am I about this area of Science?
  • I am interested in learning more about this Science Area?
  • How much prior knowledge do I have about this Science area?
  • How easy do you think it would be to find out more about this subject eg. library, internet, accessing experts.

Stage 3

Students have no chosen an area of Science they are passionate about.

Their next step is to plan what challenges they will complete to get their 20 stars. They put this in another document.
