An introduction and welcome to Oaklands Parent/Teacher Association (PTA)

Margaret Trotter —

At the recent AGM the PTA elected Elle White as President, Melissa Holland Vice President,  Treasurer Richie Christie, Secretary Janet Milne.  New members welcome.

Welcome to Oaklands School. As a parent at Oaklands, you will be interested to know how you can contribute to your child’s education and help out whenever you can, by becoming involved with the PTA.

The PTA is a group of interested parents and teachers who take responsibility for organising various activities to support the School. These activities include:

Community events which include our school gala held yearly, raffles, sausage sizzles, discos and other fund raising activities  which promote our community and family spirit

The PTA raises funds which are used to provide resources for the school which are not covered by other school funding. Funds raised over the last few years have been used for ICT equipment such as laptops in the  classrooms, library books, heating the swimming pool, funds for our garden programmes, wet weather games and reading books in the junior classrooms.

The PTA also plays a key role in keeping parents informed and involving parents in supporting their children at the school. The PTA offers a great opportunity for both teachers and parents to enjoy a better understanding of each other. Everyone is welcome and any level of contribution is always appreciated.

Meetings are generally held once a month, dates and times are normally set at our first meeting at the beginning of the school year. Please check the calendar in the weekly school newsletter,  each week for dates. If you are interested in being a part of the PTA or would like to know more, please contact any of the following 2016 PTA officers by email on  pta@oaklands.school.nz

Remember, your child’s education is important and with your support - together with the school, BOT and PTA - we all have the common goal of achieving the best for our children at Oaklands. It’s also a fun and rewarding way of getting to know other parents and teachers at the school who share the same passion.

Come on – give it a go and help support your school!
