7/8 Hub Update

Sarah Berquist —

Integrated Learning -

Experiments that we have been involved in are flying tea bag and balloon in a flame.  As our flying tea bag didn't fly as planned we will need to have another go at this experiment! Please see these youtube clips to see what happens in these experiments.

Dabok - I liked the balloon experiment because it showed that the heat transferred to the water in the balloon rather than to the balloon itself. This experiment showed that water is a good conductor of heat. As soon as the flame went up the side of the balloon where there was no water it popped!

Nicholas - I enjoy the experiments because it is fun to get outside and see if the experiments fail or succeed. I predicted that the tea bag wouldn't fly and it didn't fly as planned. I predict that when we try this again with a different tea bag that it will work.

Get Wise Financial Literacy Programme -

The ASB GetWise Intermediate workshop delivers a unique face-to-face workshop experience for student financial literacy development tailored specifically to the Year 7 to 8 year group. This workshop builds upon the tenets of our Primary programme and has a distinct future focus on planning, saving, and spending. From stepping through their first ‘Get What You Want Plan’, students then leverage their decision making skills to compete in a ‘cash-clever’ quest to make their dream holiday a reality.

Concepts covered include -

  • Income and Expenses.
  • Budgeting: Making a plan to get what you want!
  • Spending money: Credit cards and dealing with debt.
  • Making good decisions: Currency exchange, insurance and hidden costs.

Over the next 2 weeks each whanau class will have a 1 hour workshop with the facilitators.

Quiz Night -

If you are able to help with this event in anyway please contact the Year 7/8 teachers. Help may come in the form of assisting with preparation, donations for auction/raffle or a contact you may have with a business that may be willing to help.
