Week 6 In Review

Samantha Doig —

Reading

In Reading, students have been trying their best to decode tricky words, comprehend what they are reading, and clarify ideas or words they are unsure of. The big book activity today was design your own toy, students had a lot of fun being creative with this and creating a new, unheard of toy with special features and crazy colours.

Writing

In Writing this week we did a leak-proof bag experiment. Students were amazed that 15 pencils could be stabbed into a bag full of water without leaking. Everyone wrote amazing stories including their WOW words and great explanations of what happened. Students found it funny seeing Miss Doig get wet when two pencils were too close together so the water squirted everywhere.

Maths

In Maths, students continue to use different strategies to solve problems and tell teachers what these are. We have just completed Maths Week were students got booklets and as a class we discussed and solved the problems. This was great fun as it not only focused on different maths skills but the students could work together to solve.

Integrated Topic

For integrated topic, we had a wee peep through the fence to see our new spaces for next term. We discussed what furniture we would like to keep, get rid of, and possibly buy. Students loved having a say and discussing the exciting future of our new learning spaces.

Te Reo Maori

Maori this week we joined hub 3 once again and practiced our karakia that we are getting better at and how to complete a special Maori assembly that we will be going with the whole school at some point. Students showed respect and tried their best to remember the karakia and waiata. Ka Pai
