Week 4 In Hub 5
Welcome to the weekly hub 5 blog post
Literacy
This week we have been busy writing our explanations. We have been focusing on adding detail, using topic specific vocabulary, writing complex sentences and using cause and effect language in our writing. We have been working on our reading goals. You can check out what we are doing by taking a look at the modelling books for each class at our Year 5 online hub. Go to the reading and writing (term 2) sections to view these. Next week we will continue on these.
Maths
This week we finished up on our last session with our current maths teacher.
Next week we will rotate classes to work on a new strategy and continue to work on our number knowledge.
Integrated Learning
Our afternoons are taken up with integrated learning and arts rotations. For integrated learning students will attend the 2nd of 3 rotations. Miss McLean is doing plastics in the ocean, Mr Ladbrook is looking at Lake Ellesmere, and Mr Forman is looking at the effects of population and overpopulation.
We will continue this on next week.
Lockdown Practice
Our students did a fantastic job at our lockdown practice. They listened to the instructions and made sure that they were doing the right thing. This was to make sure students and teachers were aware of how to respond to events that may occur (lockdown, fire alarm, earthquake etc). Well done to all.
Upcoming events:
Maths-Whizz Parent meeting:
On Wednesday 20th June at 6pm we will be holding a Maths-Whizz parents information meeting run by Chris Perkinson. This meeting will be an opportunity to gain further insight into the programme and give you ideas on how you can support your child/children with the programme. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you have about Maths-Whizz.
Maths Whizz
Our year 5 hub are doing a fantastic job on Maths Whizz. We are currently averaging on the most progressions in the whole school as a hub. We need to keep up that fantastic work!
Here is a link to a Maths Whizz Video around return for investment. Students have had a focus on their basic facts for their maths whizz.
