Emma Frampton — Oct 18, 2018

On Thursday 18th October, Oaklands School participated in a National Earthquake Drill.

At 9:30am, along with the rest of New Zealand, the Reception Hub practiced what we would do in an earthquake.  We had talked with the children earlier in the day about how we were going to practice our turtles.  We practiced how to drop, cover and hold when an earthquake occurs while we listened to an audio file about what to do.

Then we practiced our evacuation procedures (the same as a fire which we practice each term).  For many of the children, it was the first evacuation practice they have done at school and they were amazing!  The children stayed calm, listened carefully to teacher instructions and looked after themselves during the practice.
