Week 8 in Kōmingo 5/6
Sporting successes, Passion Projects, Student Councils, Literacy Quiz and Science Fair preparation have been highlights this week for our team.
Canterbury Schools' Duathlon
Several of our students represented Oaklands School at this event this week. Congratulations to all who competed and completed the race. Special congratulations go to Harri Brown (Yr 5) who came first place in the Year 5 Boys race out of a field of 120 competitors. This is an awesome result and a first for Oaklands Te Kura o Ōwaka.
Passion Projects
Our students began their passion projects this week. This is an opportunity for students to follow an interest they have in the pursuit of learning more about the subject and improving their skills and knowledge. They can choose to do either a "Know" project where they do research to learn more about something that interests them, a "Do" project where they learn a new skill or craft, or a "Create" project where they learn to design or make something new in an area of interest they have. they create a question to guide their learning eg 'How has aircraft design changed over the last century?', or 'Why do people move to different countries to live?'
Students are able to work on these projects at school and at home.
