Cultural Narrative - How are other schools using this?
The Year 7/8 Hub wanted to find out how other schools we using their Cultural Narratives.
This term, the Year 7/8 Hub has been investigating what is the Cultural Narrative for the South West area of Christchurch. This is because the Cultural Narrative will form the basis when Oaklands conducts its rebuild.
To gather some information about how other schools are doing this, each Year 7/8 student emailed a school to find out how they were doing this. The video above gives more information. Here are some samples of the emails that were sent:

Dear Christine O’Neil
I am a year 7 student at 37 cunningham place in Oaklands School
This letter is for two things. Firstly, me and the year ⅞ hub are learning how to write a formal letter for out writing program at school; Secondly I that hopefully find out some information that I will be able to use to help me with my learning at School.
Recently the year 7 and 8 hub has been learning about the South West Cultural Narrative. In particular we have learned what a cultural narrative is and how it can be put at a School. We are currently in the process of rebuilding Oaklands School and we are using this important document s to inform some of the changes that we are hoping to make.
There are a number of questions relating to cultural narratives that I would like to ask you:
Does your School have a cultural narrative?
Is your School community ( students, teachers, parents/whanau) aware of this document?
Have you applied/ used your cultural narrative in any way in your school?
If so, how have you done this?
Thanks in advance for your time, help and answering my questions. I would be very grateful for you could take the the time to reply to me. Your answers to my questions will be very helpful with the learning that I am doing here in Oaklands School.
Yours sincerely

Dear Julie Greenwood,
I am a Year 7 student at Oaklands Primary School. This letter serves two key purposes. Firstly, we are learning how to write a formal letter as part of our writing programme at school; writing this letter to you is giving my learning a real world application. My second reason for writing is to find out some information that I will be able to use to help me with my learning at school.
Recently this term we have been learning about the South West Zone Cultural Narrative. In particular we have learned what a Cultural Narrative is and how it can be used at school. We are currently in the process of going through redesign/rebuild here at Oaklands School and we are using the Cultural Narrative to inform some of the changes that we are hoping to make.
There are 3 questions about Cultural Narratives that I would like to ask you:
Does Harewood school have a cultural narrative?
Have you applied or used your Cultural Narrative in any way at Harewood School?
If so, how have you done this?
Thank you for your time. I would be very grateful if you could take the the time to reply to me. Your answers to my questions will be very helpful with the learning that I am doing here at school.
Yours Sincerely
