Events from Term 3, 2019.

This term the Oaklands School Chess Club has attended two main Canterbury Chess Competitions. The Individual year level Canterbury's and the Social Canterbury Chess Competition. Both events were hosted by the Canterbury Inter School Chess Trust at Te Hapua, Halswell.

During this term in week 5 Oaklands School entered the Individual Canterbury Chess Competition. We had Xiyi Zhang (Year 8), Harrison Steward (Year 7) Jaxson Stove (Year 6), Jesslyn Tan (Year 5) and Didi Xue (Year 4) represent us.

Didi Xue in the Year 4 division came 1st.

Harrison Steward in the Year 7 division came 7th

Jaxson Stove in the Year 6 division came 10th equal.

Jesslyn Tan in the Year 5 division came 15th equal.

Xiyi Zhang in the Year 8 - 10 division came in 16th.

Then in week 7 of this term Oaklands School had two teams entered in to the Social Canterbury Chess Competition. 

Representing the Year 7-8 team was Morgan Leoni (School Chess Captain), Jennifer Xu, Melissa Randall and Rani Survase. 

Representing the Year 1-6 team was Charlie Barnes, Patrick Corcoran, Jesslyn Tan and Billy Spivey.

We are fortunate to have the wonderful assistance of Richie Christie from the Canterbury Chess Club. A big thank you from all in the Oaklands School Chess Club for all the assistance and coaching.
