PCT 2019
8 of our super fit Year 7/8 athletes recently participated in the PCT competition.
PCT stands for Police Competency Test. The competition involves teams of four year 7 and 8 students competing against each other over the physical competency course used by the Police.
The PCT is a nationwide competition with the winning teams from each region getting an all expenses paid trip to the national finals in Wellington. This year Oaklands was represented by Ella Wilson, Hannah Wallace, Zara Munro, Taylor Foster, Carter Baxter, Carter Woodgate and Zoe Steffens.
As always, we could not participate in events like this without parent help and we are very grateful to the parents who helped us out on the day.
The PCT event provides a novel and exciting way for our students to test themselves both physically and mentally. Teams of four race against the clock, working together to complete the Police Physical Competency Test in the fastest time possible. Teams also participated in a number of novel activities during the day, including being speed checked using the Police Lazer. Blake was our fastest runner at 27 km/hr while the two Carters came in a close second at 26km/hr.
Unfortunately we were not on the podium this year but our teams have learned a lot and there is already talk of how we could target the PCT competition next year. Be sure to check out the video and photos of our teams in action.
Read the student's thoughts on their experience below:
Taylor: I thought that it was great because we got to compete against other schools while we were having fun. My favourite activity apart from the PCT race was the laser gun when we had to sprint down a track then the man would take our speed. My speed was 26 km/h. Then when we were all finished he tallied up all of the Oaklands 1 group then we saw who was the fastest group.
Hannah: I really enjoyed the PCT competition. My favourite part of the challenge was getting over the wall and going through the window. Out of the other activities we did there my favourite one was where we had to throw balls into a bucket or roll them into a hoop.I thought it was a really fun morning.
Ella: The PCT was so fun and I really enjoyed it. My favourite part of the course was definitely the wall, I liked trying to climb over it. My team worked well together and we had fun doing all of the other activities before the course. My favourite one was the sprinting one where a police officer measured our speed; mine was 23 kph the highest out of the whole day was 28 kph. We also got a free sausage which was very yummy.
Zara: I thought it was a really fun and awesome day. I loved doing the race because we had fun even though it was a competition. The best part of the course was the wheelie bins and then the run because Ella and I got ahead in the wheelie bins and sped off in the run. My favourite part other than the PCT course was when there were squares placed on the ground and we had to guess the path to get out. Overall it was an awesome day.
