Literacy

During Taiheke Week, we delved into various important topics in literacy, focusing on the rich history and significant events in New Zealand.

Our Wellington Unit introduced the students to the New Zealand Parliament, the Women's Suffrage movement, New Zealand's involvement in both world wars, and the significance of the Treaty of Waitangi.

 
Through engaging discussions and interactive activities, we aimed to enhance their knowledge and understanding of these fundamental aspects of our country's history.

Maths

This term, we embarked on an exciting journey into Financial Literacy in our maths class.

The students eagerly explored concepts such as interest calculations, withdrawals, deposits, and essential financial terms. 

By grasping these key concepts, our students will develop crucial skills to make informed decisions in managing their finances in the future.

Through practical examples and real-life scenarios, we aim to equip our students with the tools they need for financial success.

Mihi Whakatau

In addition to the academic curriculum, we also prioritised creating a warm and welcoming environment for our new students through Mihi Whakatau.
This traditional Māori welcome ceremony allowed us to acknowledge and celebrate the arrival of new members to Oaklands Te Kura o Ōwaka.
By embracing cultural diversity and fostering inclusion, we aim to cultivate a sense of belonging and unity among our school community.

New Ākonga 

This week, we welcomed Cassia Dalrymple and Jacky Leung to Taiheke.

Non-uniform Day - please bring in a block of chocolate. This will be used with the Chocolate Wheel at the Gala.
