Writing in Hub 1!

Emma Frampton —

We have been doing lots of excellent writing in Hub 1 for the last 4 weeks.

We love writing in Hub 1!

In Hub 1 Sandpit (Rm 20/21) the children have been learning about how to sequence a story by reading and writing about familiar fairy tales.  This method of writing teaching is called Storytelling.  This method includes the teacher orally telling the story, the children then can draw a story map of what happens in the right order.  The children get to write about the story and sequence it in the right order.  The two stories that have been taught so far are "The Enormous Turnip" and "The Three Little Pigs".  Here is some of the awesome writing and story maps!

In Hub 1 Field (Rm 22/23) we have been linking our writing to our KiVa programme and we have been learning about who we trust and who we are surrounded by that can help us if we are feeling some big emotions.  KiVa stands for "No more bullying" and we have been learning who we can talk to if we are being bullied.  Here is some of our amazing writing!

We also have a range of writing opportunities within the Whakamata Stations.  E.g. shopping list for the supermarket, prescription for the toy hospital, ice-cream order for the ice-cream shop.

The children who are new to school have been learning about the concepts of writing.  They have been learning where to start, which way to write, how to form their letters and which line to write on next.  Here is some excellent writing from some eager, new children!
